Artist Statement

This painting, with the freehand spiral, is an attempt to capture the recurring image of a vortex that I had observed with my eyes closed. The image reminded me of the flow of light into a black hole, shifting from one dimension to another. It could also refer to the journeys of tiny neutrinos, oscillating from one flavor to another, as they travel through the cosmos. Or, it could be light undergoing Doppler shift as it travels towards or away from us. Chakra, a Sanskrit word for a wheel or center of energy, represents this meditative journey of the mind.
