About The Exhibition

Now in its’ thirteenth incarnation, this biennial exhibition presents the work of artists residing in the Mid-Atlantic region. This year, we changed the call slightly by adding (NOT) to the tile in order to open up the field to artists whose connection to  painting could be loose, tangential or conceptual in nature, in addition to artists making work more closely tied to straightforward painting process and materials  In accordance with this, well known sculptor and University of Maryland Professor Foon Sham agreed to be one of two jurors.  Virginia Treanor, Associate Curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts was a juror as well. Each chose twenty artists from the same pool of 218 artists submitting, and interestingly, there was only a three- artist overlap. Their choices are shown separately on our website in the on-line version of the exhibit. All the works, executed in many different styles, techniques and materials and exploring an array of concepts, are blended together in the gallery into one fantastically diverse exhibition. This exhibition, mounted every other year, has become a tradition for both McLean and the greater Washington area arts community, anxiously awaited by both artists and the art-interested public. We are very proud of this year’s version and thank both jurors for their hard work and thoughtful choices.
