For beginners and those with some experience. Photoshop is a fabulous tool for artists for editing and correcting their images but also for special effects, making art and animation. The first half of this workshop will go over the basics of Photoshop. Part two will focus on ways artists can use Photoshop to push the boundaries of their creative expression. Bring your laptop with Adobe Photoshop CC loaded (either with Adobe’s Creative Cloud free trial or a purchased plan or software of the most updated version) images of your work, and let’s play!  Watercolor: Evening Alfresco
Work directly from the landscape and surrounding nature in this outdoor watercolor class. We will explore how the later afternoon light transforms our subjects, and hone in on different inspirations we find in the summer evening setting. For a portion of each class when it gets dark, we will bring our work into the studio and continue to work and critique inside. This class is led by MPA exhibiting artist Carol Barsha, who has much experience teaching watercolor outdoors, and employs this medium and setting in her own work.

Line, Color, Pattern, Motif: From Coloring Book to Art
Open to artists of all levels. Inspired by the coloring book craze, this class is designed to lead artists through an exploration of line as a guiding force in art.  Referencing sources as diverse as textile designs, old master drawings, 17th Century emblem books, and coloring books, we will go from simple to complex designs using colored pencils. Beginning students with no drawing experience can begin making designs using abstract patterning and transfer techniques; intermediate and advanced students can develop complex pictures through composite methods.  Along the way we’ll touch upon color theory, tonality, line quality and pencil techniques.  Instructor: Aletha Kuschan

We will fall in love with our drawing tools by exploring all the different media available to us, including different pencil weights, woodless pencils, graphite, charcoal, ink, and more. Each student will find a variety of drawing material with which they are comfortable. Your skills and confidence will grow as you learn to work with line, texture, shading and simple forms.
