ROTARY CLUB OF McLEAN URGES COMMUNITY
TO PARTICIPATE IN McLEAN PROJECT FOR THE ARTS MPAarfest
Rotarians to Volunteer throughout Oct. 5 Event, Sponsor Children’s Art Tent

McLean, Va. (September 22, 2008)—The Rotary Club of McLean will be living its motto of “Service Above Self” next month at the second annual McLean Project for the Arts MPAartfest.

The community arts festival is set for Sunday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McLean Central Park located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue in McLean, Va. Forty juried artists and craftsmen from throughout the D.C. area and the mid-Atlantic region will showcase and sell their works in the free, rain-or-shine event. McLean Central Park will be turned into a lively landscape of mini-galleries. In case of inclement weather the event will be held inside the McLean Community Center, also located in the park.

The McLean Rotary Club is sponsoring the Children’s ArtTent and local Rotarians will be volunteering in a variety of different activities ranging from setting up and taking down tents to directing traffic. The Children’s ArtTent—one of MPAartfest’s most popular attractions—will foster an appreciation of art and encourage creativity among youngsters. The tent will have stations where children can make original creations such as clay sculptures and watercolor paintings. Last year more than 300 children visited the ArtTent.

“MPAartfest is a tremendous way to get involved in the local community whether you are 8 or 80 years old,” said McLean Rotary President Lois Wilson, DDS. “The members of the Rotary Club of McLean are delighted to be lending their support to the McLean Project for the Arts, MPAartfest and the McLean community by sponsoring and volunteering at this year’s MPAartfest. We are very much looking forward to the event.”

Additionally, McLean Rotarian and local senior artist Edward Shahin has been working since the spring to recruit other area seniors to display their artwork at MPAartfest’s newly added exhibit titled “Senior Artists: Thinking Outside the Box”. Shahin will serve as curator and chief volunteer of this new MPAartfest attraction that is guaranteed to add another dimension to MPAartfest and bring together people from all walks of life.

MPAartfest attendees can purchase paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs and fine crafts that will appeal to all levels of collectors. Artists will keep 100 percent of art sales proceeds. Donations from corporate sponsors, individual donors and a portion of the event’s food proceeds will benefit McLean Project for the Arts, helping to fund a multitude of high-quality art exhibitions and educational programs at its galleries located in the McLean Community Center.
