Synergy:
Sculpture by Nicole Fall

JAN 21 - MAR 6
EMERSON GALLERY

JAN 21, 7 - 9 PM
Opening reception and gallery talk
Free and open to the public

This exhibit showcases dynamic, human-scale mixed media sculpture by artist Nicole Fall. Based in the
Baltimore area, and a longtime teacher as well as a sculptor, Fall combines ceramic, welded steel and
cast bronze to create works that are at once organic and muscular. Using an abstract vocabulary that has its roots in the study of nature, she employs autobiography as a means of investigating themes of family, war, persecution, immigration and perseverance.

Terry Schupbach-Gordon makes works that combine papermaking, etching and woodcutting techniques. Sometimes hung on the wall and sometimes compiled in book form, Schupbach-Gordon, who is also a professional storyteller, brings together words and images to form compositions that,
while they are sometimes emotionally charged and difficult, strive also to depict unexpected beauty and joy. Rich color combinations and ambiguous figurative elements are prominent.

Making use of printmaking and handmade paper and casting techniques, Maryland artist Gretchen

science and psychology by using organic repetition and pattern to create mysterious and evocative
shapes that bring to mind DNA coding, cell division and human relationships.
